DMESC Director, Mr. Benny Weston, and CTE Coordinator, Stacey Southerland, are attending the 48th annual AAEA Summer Conference, Building Arkansas’s Future Workforce, in Little Rock this week.


Beau McCastlin, DeQueen PS Communications Director and DQTV Instructor, was invited to present at the AAEA summer conference. Beau and his students shared the day-to-day work of DQTV; the mission, student awards and internships, and how the program balances storytelling and live streaming.

Karla Byrne explored how sound walls can be used in the classroom. Topics discussed were understanding the purpose, and how to build, use, and move students toward independent use of the sound wall.

This workshop introduced common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and taught a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.

ArPEP Year 1 teachers received training on parent communication during the Meddling Mamas and Prying Papas professional development session The session was led by Lea Myers of the Willing Ways group. Teachers learned about various parenting styles and ways to build positive two-way communication with parents.


Brian Butler, co-author of the book “What About Us?” Presented to DMESC early childhood staff on the PLC process for Pre-K. It was a great day of learning about collaboration!
