November 2023 Staff Meeting
Lisa Boone with American Fidelity kicked off our staff meeting with an engaging presentation on Retirement Readiness. Dana Ray then discussed the support and services that we provide our districts.
Our highlighted program of the month shines a spotlight on the J Frank Scott STEM Hub, featuring Stacey Southerland, DMESC's CTE Coordinator, and Tyra Hobson, DMESC's Technology Coordinator. Stacey delved into her pivotal roles and responsibilities, emphasizing her contributions to CTE school Pathway Support/CTSO Support, Career Licensure Mentoring, New Programs Start-up Grants, Federal Perkins Grant Management, and Innovation Grant Writing. Notably, she has excelled in securing nearly $350,000.00 in innovation and non-traditional grants this year. She also provided insights into the 2023-24 Student Events, highlighting the growth and impact of the Girl Power to the Max, Next Level competition, which now encompasses six additional cooperatives. Stacey's involvement in LEARNS, ACTE, and AACTEA statewide initiatives showcases her commitment to educational advancement on a broader scale.
Tyra shared her multifaceted role in supporting technology at DMESC and empowering educators across the districts with synchronous and asynchronous professional development opportunities and online resources. She collaborates with school technology teams throughout the year, offering diverse training sessions and keeping them updated on cybersecurity developments across Arkansas. As the chair of the ACTC (Arkansas Cooperative Technology Coordinators), Tyra also outlined her extensive statewide contributions in collaboration with this group. Her additional role as the Social Media Specialist highlights her vision of leveraging social media platforms to tell the DMESC story.
The meeting wrapped up with the staff having the chance to engage in a hands-on CHRI-STEM-AS experience at the JFS STEM Hub, where they explored the functionalities of the BOSS Laser, Glowforge, 3D pens, and Plotter. #thinkcoop1st

This week, DMESC CTE Coordinator, Stacey Southerland, has been actively engaged in various activities. On Tuesday, she participated in apprenticeship learning with Arkansas OSD, Wednesday was dedicated to working on Success Ready diplomas for Arkansas students, Thursday involved providing PLC Boardroom to Classroom support for districts, and Friday included collaboration with other Arkansas coops to learn about the PLC process.



The DMESC board meeting covered several important topics. Dr. Mike Hernandez discussed Superintendent Contracts, Hope Worsham gathered feedback on the new accountability system, and Jerry Strasner presented data collection instruments for HQIM and high-impact teacher data. Arkansas Cooperative Technology Coordinators (ACTC) partnered with DIS and presented multiple sessions at the annual Arkansas Conference of Technology (ACOT). In partnership with CIRT, DESE, DIS, and Forge Institute, the ACTCs organized the Cybersecurity Bootcamp, featuring a full day dedicated to Cyber Prevention and Recovery. Additionally, throughout the event, the ACTCs presented multiple sessions focusing on data responsibility and cybersecurity awareness, equipping districts with valuable resources to maintain the security of their networks.
