We at DeQueen Mena Education Service Cooperative value and appreciate our annual student competitions. We commend both students and teachers for their hard work and stamina in reaching this level of play.
We have encouraged schools to move forward with their school-level competitions while we monitor the pandemic and its implications on larger gatherings such as our regional competitions: Battle of the Books, Reading Fair, Quiz Bowl (Elem), and the DMESC STEM Challenge.
We have stalled for a good while waiting to see if circumstances would allow these events to occur in the traditional fashion; however, it has come time to make decisions.
Battle of the Books, scheduled for March 3, 4, & 5, for grades 1, 2, & 3 has been canceled.
The DMESC STEM Challenge, scheduled for April 30, for grades 3-12 has been canceled.

Reading Fair, scheduled for Feb. 18 & 19, for grades 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12 has pivoted to an all-digital format with a change in scheduling.
Please refer to the 2021 DMESC Reading Fair Guidelines (found on the DMESC website, Reading Fair page) Division 2: Technology Presentation.
The new Reading Fair Registration deadline is Friday, February 26 for all three grade bands.
Judging at the DMESC level will begin the first week in March, and we plan to announce winners before spring break. We are unsure of the number of entries at this time and are evaluating our resources for managing entries, scoring, and awarding placements.
We invite you to a ZOOM meeting scheduled for Thursday, January 14 from 3:00-3:30 to answer any questions you may have. Please use the following link to join us:
