Christy Whisenhunt

My name is Christy Whisenhunt and it is both a great honor and opportunity to serve as your newest, and third K-12 Literacy Specialist at DeQueen-Mena Educational Services Cooperative.  I am excited to work with other educators in the area as well as across the state to provide ongoing support to teachers and administrators ultimately affecting our students in a positive way.

I am beginning my 22nd year in education. I have a strong background in early childhood education, received a  Bachelor’s of Interdisciplinary Studies in Reading as well as a Master’s Degree in Library Media.  My experience includes teaching first grade, third grade reading in a Title I pull-out classroom, fourth through sixth grade physical education and health, eighth grade creative writing, and kindergarten through sixth grade library.  I also served as Foreman School District’s Federal Programs Coordinator, School Improvement Specialist and wore many other “hats” as necessary over the years.

I live in Foreman, Arkansas with my wonderful husband of 20 years.  We have two amazing children, a daughter- in -love and soon to be son- in- love.  We have also been blessed with our first grandbaby, Cale, who will be two years old in November. It goes without saying that he is absolutely the light of my life!  Away from work, I enjoy spending time with family, going to sporting events, watching our son coach, landscaping, decorating and shopping.
